On safari most people wear shorts and a T-shirt during the day and put on long sleeved shirts and long pants in the evening for warmth as well as protection from mosquitoes. The vehicles that carry you through the safari depart early morning and bring you back two to three hours before sunset. In order to make proper plans, one should also find out about the best safaris offered by the continent. For more information visit Africa Safari travel

If you want something this dramatic, in a safari jacket, for instance, choose neutrals in a pullover or turtleneck to coordinate. Take time to research a little and make sure your ground operator in Tanzania is willing to make your safari special. If yours is a more outdoor approach, horse riding lessons and programs can be arranged during your stay at the safari park hotel.

These activities can range anything from extreme adventure – like bungee jumping – to more fun adventure activities like elephant back safaris, scuba diving, white water rafting, fishing, horse riding and the list just continues. The best is hippo safaris as they charge a flat rate of Kshs 2000 per boat, which includes waiting time. It is however also wise to know that going on a self drive safari will cost you as much as an organised cheap safari.

For a safari covering all the parks of northern Tanzania, September to March is a good time. Guided safaris leave regularly from all the biggest tourist destinations, and you can even arrange your own if you know what you’re doing and where you’re going. In a true camping safari, also called cross-country safari, you are roughing it with tents and normal camping chores and activities. Refer to Vacation Packages for more information.

Packages include accommodations in good safari lodges, ground transport, professional cooks accompanied and a four by four vehicle to carry you comfortably throughout your safari. So if you found that 90% of your customers were in fact using the browser SAFARI which is the Apple Browser then you would be developing your website for this customer base and browser. In most of lion safari country in Africa these kings of the jungle still hunt much smaller prey, which would be much more exciting and less upsetting to watch.

Care for a camping safari across the desert. It is a country incredibly endowed with natural resources, the heritage of a natural safari country. Robin Pope Safaris, Norman Carr Safaris and the Bush camp Company are all excellent examples of this, the camps are small and unpretentious and the quality of guiding is supreme.

You don’t need to go on a drive to find wildlife on a safari here because they come to you. One of the major questions while taking up a Rajasthan desert safari is the destinations to be covered. This is the sight most films of life in the safaris are made.

What a sense of relief it was to know that I never had to go on an endless shoe hunt safari and weave my way through the department store crowds and mall jungles ever again. It may also be viewed as exploration of nature with the limit ascribing to the safaris alone. Just like in the past, many safaris have a native African guide who adds his knowledge of the terrain and suRVival skills.

Enjoy the sights and sounds of a Birding Safari in Timbavati. Overheating is always a concern while on safari due to slow travelling speeds especially in older 4×4 vehicles. Visit Travel Deals for more information.

If you are thinking that it is time to plan a major family holiday, and if any of your children were fans of the movie, “The Lion King,” then an African family safari can be an adventure that the whole group can enjoy. However, you will have to seek out an African safari tour operation that has both the experience and the inclination to cater to family safaris.

Some of the family-friendly seRVices that are offered by African safari tour companies are baby-sitting, special menus to appeal to the kids, and specially trained guides for the family. Some family safaris will even make arrangements to have special children’s activities, such as a bush treasure hunt, African-inspired crafts like bead-making, or bedtime stories told by authentic African storytellers.

Certainly, there are parents who worry about taking their children into areas where they have an increased chance of contracting a disease, such as malaria. But, there are a number of game reseRVes in South Africa which are considered safe. Another viable option is taking a “road trip” on well-kept roads in Namibia or South Africa, and enjoying a less structured type of family safari.

One of the challenges that parents might encounter during a safari is convincing a youngster, who loves to cuddle up with his favorite stuffed lion at home, that the mother lion preening her cubs cannot be petted or even approached. This can be one of the more difficult things to get across, especially for children who have never been on wildlife safaris.

Even with the challenges that are bound to come up, a safari for families is not only possible, but also great fun. As long as family wildlife safaris are undertaken safely and are conducted under the watchful supervision of an experienced safari guide, who knows how to handle and cater to the children in the group, they can be an experience that will provide lifelong memories.

Many parents who have never considered taking African safari holidays with their children in tow might be surprised to learn that family safaris are one of the most popular types of vacations for children, from the ages of four to eighteen. There are many African safari tour operators, African tourist bureaus, and adventuresome parents who have successfully undertaken various Africa safaris with their children and claim that is was the experience of a lifetime for the entire family.

When parents spend a bit of time upfront in choosing the family safari destination and in selecting the safari travel guide they will be depending on, the likelihood is excellent that the vacation will be a grand success for everyone. If you have friends or acquaintances who have been on a safari for the whole family, then ask them for their insights and for contact information of the safari guide they would recommend.

Adventure awaits in America’s last great frontier. Every one of Alaska’s 586,000 square miles invites you to its own extraordinary adventure. Rich in wildlife, this great frontier is home to more animals than people. Its magnificent scenery inspires awe in the beholder. So an Alaska vacation is your passport to a thrilling adventure.

Alaska’s National Parks

Alaska is home to 8 national parks. These parks occupy one-half of the land area in the U.S. national park system. So, an Alaska vacation would not be complete without a visit to at least one of these parks.

Each park has is own unique characteristics. The centerpiece of Denali National Park is Mount McKinley, the highest mountain in North America. Denali’s more than 6,000,000 acres is home to grizzly bears, Dall sheep, moose and wolves.

The Wrangell St. Elias National Park contains the largest number of glaciers. Remote mountains, deep valleys, wild rivers and an abundance of wildlife are dominant features of this park. This is a great park of the avid photographer.

The Kenai Fjords National Park is located in southeastern Alaska. It is dominated by great fjords and the Harding Icefield. Fjords are deep valleys caRVed by ancient glaciers. These fjords are now filled with sea water. The Harding Icefield sits on a mountain platform above the coastline. Only rarely does a mountain peak penetrate the flat ice surface of the field. The Exit Glacier is extremely popular with vacationers, and it is easily accessible.

These parks are representative of all Alaska’s national parks. A visit to any one of them on your Alaska vacation will offer rich dividends.

Adventure to Alaska’s Glaciers

Imagine the spectacle of ancient glaciers dropping massive chunks of ice into the sea. The glaciers of College Fjord, Tracy Arm Fjord and Glacier Bay National Park offer some of the most spectacular sights and sounds you’ll experience on your Alaska vacation adventure. After moving ponderously down the mountains and fjords, these massive rivers of ice drop their bounty into the sea. The process is known as “calving,” and some tidewater glaciers shed enormous chunks of ice several times an hour.

In most cases, the cascading wall of ice you see is several hundred years old. While these newly formed icebergs melt rapidly in the warmer water, some are large enough to support seals and other wildlife looking for a free ride even though it is temporary.

Cruising Alaska’s Inside Passage

Cruising the Inside Passage is one of the most popular Alaska vacation adventures. Ancient glaciers carved the passage. Now blanketed with majestic hemlock and spruce, it is a region of pristine water, snow capped mountains, deep fjords and forested islands. The area, with its mild, maritime climate, is a prime habitat for bald eagles, sea lions, porpoise and whales.

The picturesque communities along the coast continue to reveal the area’s rich history. Quaint churches and other historical buildings preserve the Russian influence. You will relive the Gold Rush era as you make your way through the Passage. Ancient totem poles are constant reminders of the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian Indian cultures. You can watch as this generation of Native Americans preserve the art of totem carving. You can also see demonstrations of their traditional dance and music.

An Alaska vacation is no ordinary experience. The rich variety of options assures that you will have the time of your life. From the majestic mountains that dominate Denali National Park to the massive tidewater glaciers, from abundant wildlife to remote lodges, your Alaska experience will be permanently imprinted in your memory. If you never get to visit Alaska again, your Alaska adventure will still live within you.

Earl Calvert is a travel writer living in Birmingham, AL. His website, Family Vacations and Adventures, offers creative ideas for turning family vacations into family adventures. You will find more information on your options for an Alaska family vacation adventure at this site.

What comes to your mind when you think of a vacation to Arizona? For most folks, it means enjoying sunny skies and a game of golf in and around the state’s two largest cities, Phoenix and Tucson.

But if you enjoy a little adventure just off the beaten path, consider traveling to Cochise County in the southeastern corner of the state. In many ways, Cochise County embodies what Arizona was all about back when it was a Territory – wide open spaces and a great independent spirit.

The best way to absorb Cochise County is to visit its historic towns: Benson, Tombstone, and Bisbee.

Located right off Interstate 10, just 45 miles east of Tucson, is the historic railroad town of Benson. Located in the heart of the San Pedro River Valley, Benson is the home of Kartchner Caverns State Park, a live, wet cave. Back in Territorial days, Benson was a scheduled stop on the Butterfield Overland Stage Coach Route and the Pony Express as well. That, along with the birth of the transcontinental railroad, made Benson a bustling railroad town.

Twenty miles south on US Highway 80 lies the infamous town of Tombstone, the town too tough to die. Even those that aren’t interested in the Old West know that Tombstone was the location of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.

Tombstone’s main source of income is, you might have guessed, tourism. Allen Street, the town’s main thoroughfare, still resembles Tombstone as it was in the 1880s. The walkways beside the storefronts are wooden, and the streets are still unpaved.

Although there are many shops and restaurants in Tombstone, the town relishes its historical imprint on America. The O.K. Corral still offers tours, as does the C.S. Fly Photo Gallery, where you can view Mr. Fly’s photographs of Geronimo and 1880s Tombstone.

The most important place to visit in town is the Tombstone Courthouse. Now a historical museum, visiting the courthouse will take you back 120 years, as you can view exhibits and thousands of artifacts and really get a feel for what life was like in Tombstone.

About 20 miles southeast of Tombstone lies the quaint community of Bisbee. Now an artist enclave, Bisbee is home to the Queen Mine, which is the largest open pit copper mine in the world.

The first thing you might notice about Bisbee is its beautiful architecture, as “old” Bisbee is nestled into the side of a mountain. Immediately, your eyes will gaze over to “The Pit,” the copper mine, which ceased production in the mid 1970s. Quite simply, it’s the largest hole in the earth you’ll ever see!

The Queen Mine operates tours daily, and you can actually go down into the mine. The tours are given by former miners, and they are able to give you personal insights into the mine operations.

Each of these historical Arizona towns makes for an adventurous day trip. Consider making an extended weekend vacation and explore all of what Cochise County has to offer.

If you are in search of an ideal family vacation spot, Acadia National Park is definitely worth considering.

This little gem of a park is located on the rugged east coast of Maine. The 47,000 acres that comprise it are diverse, ranging from rocky-topped mountain domes, to thick pine forests, to ocean shoreline, to creeks, lakes, and ponds. Acadia is mostly contained on Mt. Desert Island, but it does extend to the nearby Schoodic Peninsula and even Isle au Haut out in Frenchman’s Bay.

More than 2 million people visit Acadia each year, but you’ll find most of them visit during July, August, and September. Pick a different month for your vacation and the park may almost be deserted. At any rate, even during the busy months, it is easy to get away from the crowds if you try.

Here are 10 great reasons why Acadia is such a great choice for your next family vacation…

1. It is America’s first national park east of the Mississippi. That means it is rich in history and heritage. Take time to learn about the history in one of the visitor centers with your children. They have books, movies, and displays. Or, rent the audiotape auto tour… it provides a wonderful introduction to the park.

2. There are hiking trails to meet every level of outdoor enthusiast. If you are looking for thrills and chills, try the Precipice, West Face Cadillac/Jordan Cliffs, or Beehive Trails, which come complete with iron rungs, ladders, and sheer drop offs. If you want to experience varied terrain, including rolling creek side walking, tramping on boardwalks through marshland, and exploring tidal pools at the ocean’s edge, then you and your family might enjoy the Jordan Creek Trail. Is a leisurely stroll more your style? Then, take advantage of the nicely-groomed carriage roads that you’ll find in every corner of the park or even the mostly flat Jordan Pond Trail.

3. You can try water sports. Rent a canoe on Long Pond on the western side of the island. Or join a sea kayaking group in Frenchman’s Bay out of Bar Harbor. Or just play in the crystal clear waters of one of the many ponds or creeks. You can even spend a day at the beach…Sand Beach. The waters are always cold, but the kids will love it.

4. Leave your car in the hotel or campground parking lot. Acadia has a terrific shuttle system. You can get off most anywhere in the park and re-board when you’re ready. Save on gas and the aggravation of driving too.

5. Enjoy some local culture. If you happen to need a break from the great outdoors, head into Bar Harbor. You’ll find lots of funky little shops, some great restaurants, and even a movie theater or two. If you’re there for the 4th of July, take part in the annual pancake breakfast, town parade, lobster bake, and fantastic fireworks. They come highly recommended.

6. Take a bike ride. Bring your own or you can rent them from one of several shops in Bar Harbor. Then head on over to the park and hit one of the carriage roads. A word of warning… they are all at least a bit hilly, so if you have small children or out of shape family members, don’t bite off more than you can chew. Stick to a short ride around a single lake. Eagle Lake is a great solution.

7. If you have teens, try rock climbing. A couple of outfits in town will fit you with the right gear and then take you out to Otter Cliffs (on the ocean) or Bubble Rock and teach you rock climbing skills and techniques. Great fun!

8. Although when you’re hiking the trails of Acadia, you may feel as though you’re far from civilization, in reality, you’re no more than an hour or two from Bangor, the nearest “big” city. And right outside the park boundaries is the town of Ellsworth, which has a movie theater and small mall, not to mention the local Wal-Mart if you need to restock your camping supplies.

9. Acadia has accommodations for every kind of family. There are many fine campgrounds on the island, including Bar Harbor Campground, where you can choose your own campsite, be it ocean view or in the woods. You can also camp right in the park, as long as you’re comfortable with very few amenities. If you want something a bit less rustic, then one of the many cabin and cottage places may be more to your liking. But Acadia’s surrounding towns offer a host of bed and breakfasts, motels, and hotels to suit nearly every budget and preference.

10. There is something for everyone in Acadia, no matter what age or ability. Outdoor activities abound, of course, but there are also opportunities to soak in Maine’s rich history and modern-day culture. Kids might like to spend an evening at Pirate’s Cove, a popular miniature golf venue. Hiking, walking, biking, boating, exploring… Acadia has it all!

So, for your next family vacation, you can’t go wrong if you spend it in Acadia National Park.

Other Alaskans know exactly what they’re up to as soon as they lay eyes on the long-pole contraptions of every sort, shape and size with very large nets attached. Some come alone, others come with friends or their entire families, having carefully planned this annual getaway and Alaskan family fishing tradition. Arriving in cars, trucks, campers and RVs, they bring their kids, pets, coolers, tents, gear for harvesting and cleaning, food, wood for fires and anything else they feel they might need for a day, a few days or a week or two at a time for some fun-filled work and adventure.

This adventure and privilege of the Last Frontier is called dip net fishery and is only open to Alaskan residents. Since Alaska is known for world class salmon fishing with a variety of species, dip netting is an unparalleled and not to be missed, opportunity for all Alaskan residents to fill their freezers with prime subsistence for the coming winter. So with a whopping 25 salmon per head of household limit and an additional 10 fish per family member in sight, they go in droves to the various Alaskan rivers around the state as each is opened up for fishing. They are well equipped and armed with fishing licenses; dip netting permits for recording, a good cap and pair of sunglasses to guard against occasional seagull deposits.

How does one dip net? First you need a long pole with a handle that you are able to handle and are comfortable with, usually 10 to 15 feet, (shorter for kids) with a large net no bigger than 5 feet in diameter. You can buy one or be creative and craft your own, staying within the size limitations. Although many don’t wear any particular type of clothing, most are outfitted with chest waders that are designed to keep you warm and dry; that is if you don’t fall in.

You wade out as far as you feel comfortable, careful not to fill up your waders with water and hold the dip net straight out in front of you into the current. Now you wait. Waiting might be the hardest part for some. Sometimes you will wait a long time and your arms and legs will probably get tired, but wait you must until you feel a tug in your net. You then give the net a quick twist to the left or right depending on the direction of the current so the salmon can’t escape and then walk backwards or turn around and run quickly towards shore pulling the net behind you and empty out your fish on the shore for someone in your family or a friend to take over from there. You repeat this process over and over again until you reach your limit. Someone in the family or a friend will either bonk the fish on the head with a club or cut a gill to bleed it out or both.

To keep everything legal, your catch must be recorded on your permit as well as physically marked by clipping both tips of the tail fin of each fish before packing the fish away out of sight. It’s the law. A good pair of kitchen sheers should accomplish that task just fine. Now it’s ready to be put on ice in a bucket or cooler in preparation for the trip home.

You might reach your limit in one day or over several days or weeks. Dip netting is like the luck of the draw or “the great equalizer” as Alaskans like to say about this adventure extraordinaire. Sound incredible? It is and it’s only found in Alaska. If you happen to be fortunate enough to be in Alaska during this season, don’t miss the sight of these elbow-to-elbow dip netters as they get together with family and friends to have a bit of fun while dip netting for their food for the coming year. There’s nothing like it.

Ever paddled a canoe down a calm river? It’s a wonderful way to get close to nature. And what could be better than to take a canoeing vacation with your family?

Canoeing is a wonderful vacation idea. It can be a real family adventure that is challenging yet not too difficult. Besides being a distinctly fun activity, it is also a form of travel. With a canoe you have the means to safely access wilderness areas that otherwise might not be possible for a family. In more touristy places you have the means to slip off across the river or lake for more private family fun.

If you have your own canoe, great. It is easily carried on your car to where you will be using it. Or you can rent a canoe for long excursions or for as little as a few hours. This is a very flexible way to travel and explore.
