Verdant Works  was, at one time, a fully working jute mill. At it’s peak, during the mid to late nineteenth century, the industry in Dundee employed roughly fifty thousand workers in over sixty factories spread across the city. These days,  Verdant Works brings the industry to life, utilising a range of displays which include, interactive computers, film shows and original machinery. This remarkable museum was once home to 3 enormous steam engines running seventy looms and 2,800 spindles.  There was also a workforce of some 500 workers, preparing and spinning jute then weaving it across the road in a different factory.
