New Mexico Attractions

Discover New Mexico Vacation at the Ballooning Capital of the World While you are trying to make your plans for your New Mexico travel vacation getaway make sure to consider a visit to Albuquerque to experience the Balloon Fiesta! You will want to be present the first full week of October when the Balloon Fiesta is going on. For 9 full days there are balloons soaring filling the sky of Albuquerque in a bright display of the more than 700 balloons that participate in the event.

Including over three hundred resident balloonists from around the Albuquerque region everyone will be able to see balloons anytime you trip. In fact, you can probably book a flight to go up on one from one of the various operators in the area and see the wonder of the area from the sky.

If you arrive for the Balloon Fiesta be sure to stick around in the dusk hours so you can see Balloon “Glowdeos”. This is where the balloonists’ fire up their propane burners to inflate the balloons against the evening sky which makes the whole sky aglow with psychedelic light bulbs! There are also varied styles of some of the balloons that you will enjoy experiencing. There are dinosaurs, bumble bees, flowers, a stage coach and cow jumping over the moon. They all rise up in a mass ascension of “special shape rodeos” for your thrill.

While you are in the area make sure to stop at the international Balloon Museum one of the best New Mexico attractions. Everyone will haev an opportunity to learn about ballooning, the theory, culture, history, sport and art of the flights while you are touring the Museum. It’s easy to get to since it is right on the edge of the field.

The cost of admission is reasonable so you won’t have to choose just one event, you will be able to attend many and always have enough money to eat while at the park. There are vendors throughout the park to take care of your hunger pains while you are there.

Since you are going to be attending in October you are going to need a jacket for the mornings. It will be around 40 degrees during the morning flights and warm up to approximately 70 as the day progresses. Dress in layers to be able to remove some when you get to warm. Be sure to use sunscreen with you since are at a high altitude and there is a risk for sunburn. Wear comfortable shoes, you will be walking and standing a lot so might as well be comfortable. You can bring lawn chairs into the field, unlike a number of events today. If you bring a large backpack with “treasures” be ready to have it inspected before you enter the park.

This is a fabulous event so make sure you plan to attend. Remember that a New Mexico vacation can be more than looking at museums and canyons; you can also look to the sky!
